Driving directions from Cancún International Airport: From the Airport exit, take Hwy 307 south for 40 miles. Follow signs for Allegro Playacar resort located at Lote Resortero No. 7. Playa del Carmen is about 50 miles south of Cancún. Authorized taxis, buses, and rental cars offer the most convenient ways to get from the Cancún International Airport to Playa del Carmen. Transportation options and ticket booths are found as soon as you exit the airport. Authorized group taxi to Playa de Carmen for 2 to 9 people: more than $60 USD. There is a direct bus line to Playa del Carmen from Cancún International Airport: $5–$15 USD. Once you arrive at the bus station you can take a taxi to the resort: less than $5 USD. Rental cars can be picked up at the airport or at outlets in the city of Cancún and are available through this Web site: more than $36. Prices subject to change without advanced notice. Getting around:The resort is located about 10 minutes outside of Playa del Carmen and close to historic Mayan ruins. The front desk can arrange for a taxi or transportation into the city: $5–$15 USD. Taxis can also be hired for blocks of time or for the day if you want to take a tour of the area: more than $36 USD. Make sure you set a fixed price with your driver before beginning your trip. The resort is situated on a beach that is easily navigated in bare feet.

This hotel features 296 air-conditioned guestrooms with cool tile floors. Garden-view balconies or patios are furnished with two chairs and a hammock. With cream-colored walls, white ceilings, light-colored furniture, and Mayan paintings, rooms have Yucatan ambience. Bathrooms include tub/shower combinations and marble vanities. Topaz - This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. Weather permitting, a dinner buffet is also served outside, either by the pool or in front of the theater. La Troje - Specializing in Mexican dishes, La Troje serves à la carte dinners.
Carusso - No children under 12 are permitted at this dinner house. Reservations and resort wear are required. Floral-print chairs, marble floors, and recessed ceilings painted with clouds create a proper atmosphere for Italian fare. La Huerta - Located by the pool, this is an open-air pizza place. Snack - Just as it's named, Snack serves light foods buffet-style by the pool for lunch. The resort also contains five bars, including the Sports Bar, which features pool tables, televisions, and, from 8 PM until 2 AM, music for dancing.

What to expect: Casual, convivial, and family-oriented, the moderately priced resort provides guests endless opportunities to have fun—and equal opportunities to be alone with the sun and the water. Amenity highlights: Two pools offer sunning and swimming options. Nearest the beach is a big pool and sundeck surrounded by thatch-roof palapas for shade and serving as the water-activities center. Farther away from the beach is a figure 8-shaped "relaxation pool," where noise is minimal and tranquility available. Great for strolling and people-watching in the hotel zone, the deep beach runs a great distance to the south. Insider tip: In addition to unlimited food and drink, the resort's All-Inclusive Plan includes complimentary windsurfers, small sailboats, snorkeling gear, and kayaks. Bicycles for touring Playa del Carmen and the neighboring residential community of Playacar are also complimentary.

The resort's 38 two-story villas contain eight rooms each. Lush gardens surround the villas, and all public spaces such as restaurants and bars, have thatch roofs. Within the resort are a beauty shop offering massages, and an activities desk for arranging eco-adventure park tours and other excursions. Activities run day and night, including shows in the open-air theater. Children have their own pool—shaped like Mickey Mouse—along with playground equipment and special activities. Like all major Mayan Riviera hotels, Allegro Playacar is equipped with a water-purification system. Note: Extra fees may apply for some activities.
